Psalmist (Andy Bartmess)
AGility = 7 or greater
and (2*JO + PA + SC + HO)/5 = 7 or greater
The Psalmist is devoted to praising the OverLord in music and song. A Psalmist gains these special abilities from their music classes at the Academy:
The Psalmist's keen ear grants a +2 on all LIStening rolls.
While playing, the Psalmist can receive a +2 on Converse with Animals, a +2 on Talk with Locals, or a +2 on Persuade Foe. But remember, all that sweet music could draw increased attention from Dark Creatures!
A Psalmist may achieve limited WordRune effects by singing hymns or contemporary Christian music (Usually one verse will do. Specific song/WordRune exchanges to be submitted to the AM for approval before gametime!).
(For higher level WordRune effects, multiple verses may be required, or an AGility roll made against the psalm's approximate Difficulty Level, or the AM may be VERY EXACTING about the Psalmist being on key!
The Former Profession-based KNowledge bonus is extended to include a "Lore" check. The young Psalmist gets a +3 on all KNowledge checks involving people or things that may have been recorded in song. If the KNowledge check fails, the musician may try again after a night's "research" of swapping tales with another Psalmist, or even consulting a OnceBorn bard or minstral. (One roll per evening of research.) (Remember to make Righteously Mingle with Evil Success Checks as needed if the Psalmist has to go into low-class or evil establishments.)
[The mere existence of a person or thing would probably be a Difficulty Level 2 check, specific information or current location would be at a higher Difficulty Levels.]
A beginning Psalmist will undertake to build his instrument when entering the Special Character Role. The AM will provide a list of necessary, high quality materials. The work will take d10 weeks of spare time to complete. The instrument will require 2 Tals per week in additional hardware and tools to build and tune.
(At the AM's descretion, the character may require special technical advice from a "serious musician" Non Player Character to construct the device.)
The young Psalmist will also need to pay 3 Tals +5d10 Pennies for the construction of a travelling case to protect this fine music-maker. (If not, there is a 25% chance of the instrument receiving damage during battle.) If the entire RaidTeam does not aid in the funding of the device, it may be a long while before the first accompanied praise-sing!
Instruments a Psalmist could use:
dulcimer
lute
lyre
mandolin
recorder (flute)
